something about me:

I'm Nanako (full name: Nanako Yano).  You can call me "nanako," "nana," or whatever you like. I will be more than happy to have a unique nickname if anyone can come up with a good one. I am a playful, hardworking, stubborn, curious, adaptable, and cat-loving person.

I am majoring in Industrial Art, concentrating in Visual Communication. Although Visual Communication covers computer graphics and digital media, I am interested in package design, and hand drawn illustration. I've been doing illustration for couple of years. I normally use black pen and a gray marker.

Everything around me inspires me. It could be an abstract photo, sky, someone's fashion, lights, a chair, fonts, cats, anything! My inspiration comes when I'm least expected, so I try to carry my sketchbook anywhere I go.

My illustration is influenced by many artists such as Cubism artist Piet Mondrian, Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha, a Fashion illustrator Stina Persson, also a Fashion illustrator Tina Berning, and so on. My graphic design is influenced by Japanese poetry, Art, calligraphy, Japanese graphic designer Shun Kawakami, also Japanese graphic designer Kenjiro Sano, NYLON magazine, and so on.

After I graduate, hopefully I will find a graphic design or package design job in the United States, or I will go back to Japan to find one. Within 6 years of living in the U.S., many unexpected events happened to me. So I don't set a vision or path for myself to follow, but I want to be a designer who keeps creating simple and balanced work, which influences other designers and design students.

I think I covered all the things I had to write. If you have any question about me, or if you come up with any cool nickname, please talk to me anytime!
